Akanishi Jin, together with Kamenashi Kazuya, are the two most popular members of KAT-TUN. Often referred to as Akame, Kame and Jin are the main vocalists of the group. They also starred in the j-drama Gokusen 2 together. Apart from acting in several dramas, he is known for penning several songs, such as "Hesitate", "Care", and "Love or Like". He is often called "Bakanishi," a play on his name and the word "baka" or "idiot," because of his child-like personality - though he is working to overcome that image. He is good friends with Yamashita Tomohisa and Nishikido Ryo of NEWS; as well as actor/singer Shirota Yuu.

It was recently announced that Akanishi would be taking an indefinite hiatus from KAT-TUN in order to study language abroad. The official statement posted a minimum time of six months depending on his success in his studies and during a press conference also cited health issues. There have been rumours that say Akanishi Jin is currently in the California, United States.
